Annex M is an optional specification in ITU-T recommenda-
tions G.992.3 (ADSL2) and G.992.5 (ADSL2+). This specifica-
tion extends the capability of commonly deployed Annex
A by more than doubling the number of upstream bits. The
data rates can be increased easily depending on the dis-
tance from the DSLAM to homes of the customers. It com-
plies with G.992.1 (G.dmt) Annex A compliant/G.992.2 (G.
Lite), Annex A/L/M and G.998.1 (G. Bond-ATM) ATM-based
multi-pair bonding.
Loop bonding technology provides the telecom industry
with a revolutionary technique to combine multiple
ADSL2+ connections into a single, aggregated connection.
Supporting up to 48 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps
upstream data rates, as well as high-speed data and derived
voice applications, service providers can offer advanced
bandwidth-dependent services such as broadcast video
and video-on-demand (VOD) to customers beyond the
reach of central offices or digital loop carriers. Bonded
ADSL2+ supports multiple high-definition television
streams at significantly longer distances than other existing
xDSL technologies.
ZyXEL’s boneded ADSL2+ with Annex M solution on the
existing networks for Telcos and service providers. The
solution offers downstream bandwidth of up to 48 Mbps
and upstream bandwidth of up to 5 Mbps using the
bonding and Annex M technologies on two phone lines. We
also offer a solution for bonding a larger number of phone
lines; ZyXEL generally recommends the use of standard
G.998/G. Bond technology for bonding multiple ADSL lines.
The alternative solutions based on non-standard bonding
or load-balancing techniques such as IP tunneling may have
a role to play in certain deployments and we can provide
solutions of this type too.
ZyXEL’s bonded ADSL2+ with Annex M solution provides
the existing ISPs with opportunities to target the profitable
SOHO and SMB markets by differentiated and customized
services. The superior downstream and upstream
capabilities of bonded ADSL2+ combined with relatively
low cost makes the solution particularly attractive to SOHO
and SMB users. The significant attraction to the existing ISPs
is that only part of their existing infrastructures needs to be
upgraded and this can be achieved on a gradual basis as
subscription to the services increases.
ZyXEL’s bonded ADSL2+ with Annex M solution allows
service providers to double the bandwidth over the existing
copper infrastructure and thus leverage their investment to
quickly deploy revenue-generating services like IPTV, VoD
and other premium triple-play applications.
With the ZyXEL end-to-end bonded ADSL2+ solution,
service providers can economically offer services with
higher bandwidth coupled with 802.11n home networking
solutions to their subscribers. This is a prime example of
ZyXEL’s commitment to building exactly what operators
need to remain competitive. Please refer to the application
diagram and supported product tables for details.
3. Bonded ADSL2+ with Annex M Solution
Benefits:
■
The fastest way to achieve positive revenue returns
associated with triple-play bonded ADSL2+
gateways is to deliver these services over existing
copper loops, of which there are over 450 million
worldwide
■
Bonded ADSL2+ delivers great data rates over longer
distance than the basic ADSL2+
■
Lower CAPEX on investing equipment, lower OPEX
for matured SNMP and TR069 network management
and provision equipments
